This becomes the mindset of the children of Lometa, a small, isolated Hill Country town in Texas, so small the that its high school plays six-man football. Margaret Jackson, a high school freshman, finds herself in a seemingly hopeless realm of dystopia. She and her fellow students must learn to continue on, lacking even the basic necessities of modern life—no electricity, no internet, no phones, no working vehicles, no access to the outside world (if it’s even out there). As some grow older, they soon realize that their lives have a deadline and they too will join their parents as glass shadows devoid of life.
Determined to survive, they make a pact: those who are about to reach the age of Turning must Walk to find help before they Turn. They must become the Stone Walkers.
But they soon find that the Stones themselves may be their greatest threat.
