KT Public Relations & Literary Services

Updated November 6, 2009

KT Public Relations & Literary ServicesI’ve worked with books and authors since 1979 when I did my first author tour at Rodale Press for a new cookbook. Over the years I have loved working with the authors entrusted to me and have learned valuable lessons from each and every one of them. Working with authors has always been my favorite part of being a publicist.
A few years ago when I was traveling with a client, I met a self-published author in the green room of a cable television show. She was a very impressive young woman and I asked her if she’d ever considered approaching a publisher with her book. She said she would love to have it published. On that day, I began my journey to become a literary agent. I took the book to my agent-friend Ellen and told her I thought the book could be sold. Ellen agreed and together we sold the book to a large New York house. A year later, I took Ellen a client’s self-published psychology book and together we sold it to another publisher. I was hooked. In late 2005, my partner Jon and I decided that we would pursue the agent business in earnest, while maintaining our public relations shop. Jon has an undergraduate degree in English literature and a master’s degree in library science, and has always dreamed of becoming an agent. Jon also has an uncanny eye for a good read and prides himself on his editing skills.
That’s our story. Jon and I are avid readers who love books and the authors who write them. We are rapidly enlarging our acquaintance with publishers who publish the topics we represent—nonfiction: parenting, history, cooking, foods, nutrition, crafts, beauty, how-to, gardening, war, health, medicine, psychology; fiction: science fiction/fantasy, women’s fiction, thrillers/mystery/crime and general fiction.

A proper query is brief and to-the-point. Sell us on yourself, your credentials and your book. Do not attach anything to the query. If we’re impressed, we’ll ask for more—trust me.
