| The August Agency, LLC – Of any national literature, “the Augustan age” is considered the period of its highest state of excellence and refinement. The expression originated with the reign of the emperor Augustus, who fostered the golden age of Roman literature. Since then, the name has been ascribed to subsequent eras of great prosperity in artistic writing, including the reign of Louis XIV, known as “the Augustan age of French literature,” and that of Queen Anne, widely regarded as “the Augustan age of English literature.”The August Agency is founded on many of the same principles Augustus Caesar set in place to facilitate a stimulating venue where distinguished writers could flourish. More than just another literary and media management company in the business of selling books to publishers, we approach the industry with a fresh point of view and creative strategies that set us apart from other agencies. As followers of the Code of Ethics of The Association of Authors’ Representatives, we firmly believe a literary agent is, among other things, an author’s ultimate advocate, anchor, arbitrator, and advisor. | Please send an email to submissions@augustagency.com containing the following:The word “query” in the subject lineA detailed summary of your book (one to two paragraphs only)A chapter outline (for nonfiction only)A brief paragraph explaining who you are and why you have chosen to write this particular book
MOST IMPORTANT: The first 1,000 words or first chapter (note: this must be pasted within the body of your email; all emails with unsolicited attachments or lack of this writing sample within the body of the email may be deleted without being read) The total page or word count of your completed manuscript Your full contact information (including telephone and email address). If you want to be an ordinary writer, write an ordinary book. But if you want to be an extraordinary author, be prepared to go the extra mile. Our staff is made up of highly selective, seasoned publishing professionals who will give serious consideration to original, creative, and quality manuscripts from extraordinary authors. We do not charge a reading fee. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to respond to all incoming email. However, please note that every query is read and thoroughly reviewed by our staff. If we are interested in your project, you should receive a response to your email within two to three weeks.
