Submission Guidelines |
| Submissions We do not look at unsolicited material. However we do accept one-page queries by regular mail. The query is important, because it introduces you to us. It needs to be professionally presented, written with some originality and include biographical information. Please include your e-mail address. We prefer not to receive queries by e-mail because it’s impossible to answer the hundreds that we receive. When sending a query by regular mail, fiction submissions may include the first 3-5 pages of sample writing together with a synopsis. We do not return material unless specifically requested and accompanied by an SASE. To help the environment, please send queries in regular envelopes. Sending a couple of pages in an oversized mailer, wastes paper and postage. Thanks. Please do not send separate queries to all agents. Send to the agent most suited for your particular project: Win Golden
Commercial/literary fiction, current events/politics, journalism, pop culture, biography, memoir, science, narrative non-fiction (by referral) Sally van Haitsma
Commercial/literary fiction, pop culture, business, how-to, science, narrative non-fiction Deborah Ritchken
Narrative non-fiction, memoir, biography, literary fiction Our preferences: NONFICTION FICTION We’d like to hear from anyone who has had success with a previous novel. We do look at debut novels and it helps if you’ve been published in literary anthologies or magazines, if you have studied under well-known authors, or have an MFA. It’s all about the writing of course but if great writing is accompanied by a marketing hook of some kind, that’s a seductive combination.
