Glee, Breaking stereotypes and testing boundaries

Glee 1Glee 3Granted I am a few weeks behind on episodes but that is the glory of DVR’s.  Still the post is not about DVR’s it is about a show that has done something I didn’t think possible; it is actually bringing a unique perspective to the high school environment from the television venue.  Just when you thought TV couldn’t get any more cliché, it busts out with a show about well…………….damn, I get lost between episodes on what the show is about exactly but I do get the general theme.

Being gay in high school, how hard is it.  Damn hard I would guess.  Being a football player should be easy but is it?  How about a cheerleader who vows celibacy?  That would make life simple right?  No sex, nothing to distract you but oops.  Just when you thought it was so simple the cheerleader jumps into the hot tub with the football player who prematurely loses his load and even through her swimsuit she becomes pregnant.  Holy shit, I had never heard that one before.  All of this while the football team is dancing their way to their first victory and the glee club is gaining in popularity.Glee 2Glee 4

Have you lost track.  Ok, let’s take a step back.  The show is based on a high school Spanish teacher who takes over the Glee club.  The Glee club has the stigma you might imagine and consists of the loser misfit dredges that the popular kids wipe their shoes with.  You know, the gay boy, the wheel chair kid, the overweight girl, the freakishly driven theatrical girl…………..  The kids who all get picked on and laughed at.  Now the kicker is the Spanish teacher starts molding them a little and they begin to rise in stature ever so slightly.  They get noticed.  The quarterback of the football team who likes to dance and sing gets coerced into joining and soon after his cheerleader girlfriend comes in and brings a couple of her friends with her.

Glee 5Glee 6The eclectic mix of kids begin to bond and voila, you have cultures mixing, lifestyles meshing and you start to lose track of who belongs to what group.  Is that normal?  The women’s cheerleader coach does not think so.  She wages war on the Spanish teacher doing anything and everything she can to destroy it.  At one point she actually pushes the 70 year old nurse down a flight of stairs so she can influence the Spanish teacher’s wife to take her place (as a nurse).  The Spanish teacher’s wife is not a nurse and has no training bring a nurse.  Logic does not rule the school and since it is a public school nobody really cares, right?

Have you completely lost track of what anything means.  Glee is one of those shows that you don’t want to miss from week to week as you will not be able to keep up.  You will have no idea what is happening.  Honestly even if you do watch every show you might not have any idea what is happening but you will be laughing your ass off as you are trying to figure it out.

Highly recommend watching the show.  Just finished the episode where the school nurse prescribes drugs to the boys to help them with a little energy boost since the quarterback is having trouble sleeping.  While I love the show I am glad that my kids don’t go there.  Those are some damn messed up rules that school follows.Glee 7Glee 8

Moral, if you can’t get through your assigned tasks take some decongestant filled with speed and life will reward you.  If that doesn’t work, well become a neurotic driven insane woman and then take speed.

Is there anyone sane on this show?
